The Intelligent Adiabatic Cooling System is an adiabatic atomizer that employs
evaporative cooling to cool air before it is used by condensing units like chillers or
dry coolers. Water atomization in micrometric droplets promotes spontaneous
evaporation, which removes some of the thermal energy necessary for evaporation
from the surrounding air, decreasing its temperature (each kilogram of water that
evaporates absorbs 0.69 thermal kW from the air). Bringing the air near to its wet-
bulb temperature lowers its temperature by roughly 10-15°C during the summer,
resulting in a reduction in the workload required from the condensing unit (chiller)
and, as a result, considerable energy savings in terms of spared electric kW. The
Intelligent Adiabatic Cooling System For Chillers consists essentially of a cabinet with a
pressurizing pump (10 bar) and a system of nozzles mounted onto steel manifolds to
be arranged around the condensing unit: the atomization occurs against the flow, so
the droplets sucked in by the chiller's fan take a longer route and have more time to
evaporate. As a result, the air is cooled and the depth of the battery's heat exchange
is enhanced. A portion of the droplets will wet the battery flaps, absorbing heat and
then evaporating, enhancing the heat exchange.
